OUR STORY
There’s no place like New Orleans. The spirit is electric, the culture is unmatched. With so many ways to explore, and more creative talent than one can fathom, the glory of this city could never be tamed. Our story begins with a love for the creative community here paired with our want to expose them to the world. This is the foundation for what we do today: creating, cultivating, and showcasing the gems even locals never knew.
Atypical was founded in 2016 when a group of friends from college saw a void in the local nightlife and an opportunity to showcase our talented friends. With the purpose of creating a fun networking space for young, black, creative entrepreneurs like us, we brought our first idea to life. Friends & Flows was a popup marketplace between us, DJ Lil Jodeci (Set De Flo) and Jordan Rhea (Raire Label). The successful popup became a monthly series, touring four venues over three years and featuring more than 75 local vendors and brands.
Our ideas swelled from there as we grew true passion for creating social experiences for creatives and young professionals. We have produced a range of inclusive spaces, from garden parties and holiday soirées to content creation kickbacks and album listening parties. Some of our greatest hits include Dive INN (pool party), Atypical NYE, and our annual Drink Play Parade mini-festival we hold for Mardi Gras season.
As 2020 changhes the face of social gatherings for the foreseeable future, we’re taking this time to curate digital versions of the experiences our community counts on us for. We stay true to our mission of showcasing creative talent and building on the community we love so much.
